Now, I'm not going to get all serious and dramatic. We all know what happens on I-45 South. It’s less of a highway and more of a spontaneous city-wide parking lot demonstration. Today, it seems, our beloved I-45 decided to outdo itself. A “major accident,” the radio announcer breathlessly declared, like it was a rare celestial event. Apparently, a few cars had a very enthusiastic hug, and the rest of us were invited to spectate.

Let’s be honest, nobody wants to be on I-45 South during rush hour. It’s a rite of passage, a bonding experience. You’re surrounded by fellow travelers, all united by the shared goal of reaching… well, anywhere else. Today, that shared goal was put on extreme hold. I saw people doing all sorts of things. One guy was attempting to teach his dog how to drive from the passenger seat. Another lady was doing her makeup with such intensity, I’m pretty sure she was auditioning for a role in a telenovela. My personal highlight was seeing a man in a pickup truck singing along, loudly, to a song I couldn’t quite make out. Good for him! Embracing the chaos!
