Legends Of Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 10 Review Progeny

Legends Of Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 10 Review Progeny

So, Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 10, titled "Progeny." Honestly, it was a bit of a wild ride, wasn't it? Like trying to herd cats who have just discovered caffeine.

We're talking about Rip Hunter’s son, Jonah Hex, and a whole lot of paradoxes. It felt like the writers threw a dart at a whiteboard and whatever it landed on, they ran with it. And you know what? I'm kind of here for it.

The whole premise of a future where Savage has basically won and is controlling everything? A little bleak, sure. But then you have our lovable band of misfits trying to fix it. It’s like watching toddlers try to build a spaceship. Adorable, but probably doomed.

The Future is… a Mess

So, we land in this grim future. And it’s not just a little grim. It’s like someone spilled a bucket of despair and then painted over it with shades of gray. Very fashionable, I guess?

Vandal Savage is the big bad, obviously. He’s always the big bad, isn’t he? Like that one guy at every party who just stands in the corner looking ominous. Except this guy is actually trying to end the world.

And Rip Hunter is having a personal crisis. Because, you know, his son is involved. It’s never just about saving the world, is it? There’s always some family drama thrown in. Classic superhero trope, but in this case, it’s with a bunch of D-listers, which is somehow more charming.

Captain Cold's… Charm Offensive?

Now, let’s talk about Captain Cold, aka Leonard Snart. This episode really leans into his whole… anti-hero vibe. He’s trying to be a hero, but he’s still got that rogue twinkle in his eye. It’s a delicate balance, and I think he nails it.

He’s essentially the responsible adult in the room, which is hilarious given his track record. He’s the guy who brings the snacks to the apocalypse party. Always prepared, always looking out for number one, and occasionally looking out for the rest of the team.

His interactions with the rest of the crew are gold. He’s got this dry wit that cuts through all the serious superhero stuff. It’s like a palate cleanser for your brain. Thank you, Captain Cold, for the much-needed sarcasm.

Hawkgirl’s Big Moment (or Lack Thereof)

Okay, so Hawkgirl. Bless her heart. She’s trying her best. But sometimes, it feels like she’s just there to, you know, flap around and look confused. This episode doesn’t exactly catapult her into the spotlight.

She’s got the whole reincarnation thing going on, which is supposed to be a big deal. But in "Progeny," it’s more of a background hum. We’re all waiting for that moment where she really shines, but it's still a bit elusive.

Maybe the writers are saving her for something epic later. Or maybe she’s just the quiet one who observes everything. Either way, I’m hoping for more Kendra action soon. She’s got potential, I feel it in my bones.

The Atom’s… Tiny Contributions

And then there’s The Atom, Ray Palmer. He’s the brains of the operation, or at least, he tries to be. His inventions are always impressive, even if they sometimes backfire spectacularly. He’s like the enthusiastic inventor who forgets to proofread his own blueprints.

In this episode, he’s working on some sort of gizmo to stop Savage. It’s all very technical and sci-fi-y. I don't always understand the science, but I appreciate the effort. He’s the guy who brings the gadgets to the superhero party.

His interactions are often with Sara, which is a pairing that just… works. They’re both sort of the more level-headed ones, if you can even call them that. He’s the optimist, she’s the realist, and together they make a surprisingly good team.

Jonah Hex: The Gritty Interloper

Jonah Hex shows up! Yes, the gruff bounty hunter from the Wild West. He’s like a walking, talking grit filter. Suddenly, our sleek sci-fi adventure gets a healthy dose of dusty cowboy angst.

He’s brought in to help them navigate this future, and he’s not exactly thrilled about it. He’s got that whole “don’t tell me what to do” attitude, which is actually kind of refreshing in this world of time travelers with agendas.

His dry humor and general disdain for everyone are surprisingly endearing. He’s the guy who shows up to your fancy gala in overalls and still manages to steal the show. I’m always a little excited when he pops up.

The Rip Hunter Saga Continues

Rip Hunter’s storyline is really the heart of this episode, for better or worse. He’s dealing with the personal ramifications of his mission. It's a classic hero's burden, but amplified by time travel and the fate of humanity.

His struggle to reconcile his duty with his feelings for his son is palpable. It’s a heavy burden to carry, and you can see it weighing on him. It’s a reminder that even the coolest time travelers have human problems.

This episode really digs into Rip’s character. We see his vulnerability, his determination, and his desperation. It’s a good look for him, even if it means the team has to deal with his emotional turmoil.

An "Unpopular" Opinion: It Was Fun!

Now, for my completely unpopular opinion: I actually enjoyed "Progeny." Yes, I know, I know. It’s not the most critically acclaimed episode. It’s messy. It’s a little bit all over the place.

But that’s what makes Legends of Tomorrow, well, Legends of Tomorrow. It’s not trying to be some prestige drama. It’s a rollicking, slightly bonkers adventure through time with a cast of characters you can’t help but root for.

The episode throws so much at the wall, and surprisingly, a lot of it sticks. The character moments, the action sequences, the sheer audacity of it all. It’s the kind of show that makes you laugh, makes you gasp, and maybe even makes you shed a single, heroic tear.

What's Next for the Legends?

So, where do the Legends go from here? Who knows! That’s the beauty of this show. One minute they’re fighting immortal dictators, the next they’re… well, who knows what they’ll be doing next. That’s the fun of it.

This episode definitely set up some interesting plot threads. The future is still a mess, Savage is still out there, and our heroes are still on the run. It’s the status quo, and I’m perfectly happy with it.

Until the next temporal anomaly, keep your paradoxes in check and your ray guns charged. The Legends will be back, probably causing more mayhem, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Keep smiling, keep watching!
